Terms of sale

Last updated: May 2026

These Terms govern the purchase of digital books and the use of this website. They exist because modern commerce requires such things, though we shall endeavour to keep them readable.

By purchasing ebooks from this website, you agree to these Terms.

1. About The Tricky Genre Press

The Tricky Genre Press is an independent UK-based publisher operating as a sole trader.

For enquiries relating to orders or these Terms, please use our contact form.

2. Digital Products

Products sold through this website are digital ebooks, generally supplied in EPUB format.

You are responsible for ensuring that your reading device or software supports EPUB files before purchase.

Reasonable efforts are made to ensure compatibility across standard modern e-readers and applications, but no guarantee can be made for every possible device, application, or technological eccentricity.

3. Purchases and Payment

All prices are displayed in the applicable currency at checkout.

Payments are securely processed through Squarespace Payments and associated payment providers.

The Tricky Genre Press does not directly store payment card information.

4. Licence and Personal Use

When you purchase an ebook from The Tricky Genre Press, you are purchasing a personal licence to read the work.

You are not purchasing the copyright itself.

Unless otherwise stated, ebooks purchased from this site are licensed:

  • for personal use only;

  • on a non-exclusive basis;

  • non-transferable;

  • and not for redistribution or commercial exploitation.

In ordinary language: please do not upload the books to pirate archives, torrent sites, AI training corpora, or “free ebook” forums.

Authors need to eat too.

5. Copyright

All content published by The Tricky Genre Press remains protected by copyright law and related intellectual property rights.

No part of any publication may be reproduced, distributed, publicly shared, or commercially exploited without permission, except where permitted by law (for example, reasonable quotation for review, criticism, or scholarship).

6. Artificial Intelligence and Automated Use

The content published by The Tricky Genre Press may not be used without prior written permission for:

  • automated scraping;

  • mass extraction;

  • dataset generation;

  • machine learning training;

  • or similar automated processing.

This includes both website content and purchased digital publications.

7. DRM

At present, ebooks sold through The Tricky Genre Press may be supplied without Digital Rights Management (DRM) restrictions.

This is a gesture of trust toward readers and should not be interpreted as permission to redistribute copyrighted works.

Please do not reward trust with piracy.

8. Refunds

Due to the nature of digital products, ebook purchases are generally non-refundable once the download has been delivered.

By purchasing and downloading digital content from this website, you acknowledge that immediate access to the content begins upon delivery and that statutory cancellation rights may therefore be lost under applicable consumer law.

That said, reasonable refund requests may be considered in cases such as:

  • duplicate purchases;

  • corrupted files;

  • failed downloads;

  • or significant technical defects.

If something has genuinely gone wrong, please let us know via our contact form and we shall attempt to resolve it.

9. Availability and Technical Issues

The Tricky Genre Press makes reasonable efforts to ensure that downloads and website services remain available.

However, uninterrupted access cannot be guaranteed at all times. Occasionally:

  • servers fail;

  • software behaves strangely;

  • updates break things;

  • civilisation declines.

Technical support will be offered where reasonably possible.

10. Website Use

You agree not to:

  • misuse the website;

  • interfere with its operation;

  • attempt unauthorised access;

  • deploy automated scraping tools;

  • or use the site for unlawful purposes.

In general, “act like a decent human being” remains an excellent guiding principle.

The Tricky Genre Press is not responsible for the content, policies, or reliability of external sites.

12. Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Tricky Genre Press shall not be liable for:

  • indirect or consequential losses;
